Test Question

Detective Mr. Catchcrook Esq. had arrested a suspicious looking man hanging out near the site of a robbery two days ago, and was now interrogating the poor soul in his office, writing down everything he said word for word (Mr. Catchcrook believed that everything that came out of the mouth of a suspect was an important clue to some mystery or other, and Mr. Catchcrook just loved a mystery). The suspect admitted that he had 4 children. When questioned about their ages, he stated that the product of their ages was 48, and that the sum of their ages was equal to the number of police officers searching the robbery site at the time he had been arrested. When Mr. Catchcrook said that he did not have enough information to figure out the ages of the children, the suspect added that the eldest one was quite good at piano, and Mr. Catchcrook immediately said that he now knew how old each of the suspect’s children was.
How old was each child?
